Hi I put a post on here about two weeks ago about horse not eating hay ,as I had just moved fields thought it was the grass , well time has gone past and grass has gone down still not eating hay or haylage ,had dentist out yesterday and said teeth are ok , but tonight I watched him eat a little haylage and quid ding so he stopped eating, hate leaving him knowing that all his going to do is walk his hay and haylage round his house , what should I do, his only 3 years old , thanks guys xx

could it be his baby teeth changing and making it difficult for him to chew, although I would have thought dentist would have seen that!

ETA, oh just had a thought but I am sure it will be miles out and that dentist would have picked it up but worth a mention.........we had a yearling with a broken jaw a few months ago, had been kicked and just showed as a lump under his jawline, he couldn't chew properly and just gave up but was hungry. I'm ashamed to say I didn't pick it up immediately in the field because he always seemed so well and was used to them coming to us so not grazing when we are there, it was only when I fed him a carrot that I saw it straight away.

Have you spoken to your vet?
That would be my next call.

Hi yeah spoken to him today he said to leave him a week but going to call him again tomorrow as I'm not happy to leave the horse, he just looks so hungry in the mornings it's sad really and upsetting,

Hope you get it sorted, will he eat short chop mixed in qith something like fast fibre so hes got something to eat for a little while.

Did you dentist notice any ulcers? my WB was struggling to eat when we first got him and it was down to two ulcers.

was he quidding before he had the dentist?
Only after the dentist came out to mine last time he said some horses eat a bit funny after their teeth have been rasped - something to do with muscle memory, and if they've had a bit done, they can be chewing in a different way and it feels funny.
