Hi all, just wondered if you could give me some advice.

i'm having my horse back from being on loan in 2 weeks time. However, he has lost a shoe. He gets super duper footsore and cannot wait the two weeks to have it put back on.

Question is, where do i stand? as he is still in there care do they pay for the shoes or do i?

I would say they do but I suppose it depends on the relationship with the loaners? If they are against it perhaps insist they at least go halves?

Personally if it was my horse i would get my farrier out asap. For the sake of the cost of a set of shoes is it really worth your horse being uncomfortable.

I'd say the loaner is responsible, if your horse went out fully shoos it should be returned the same way buy if the loaner have or will become difficult about having it done I'd just do it for peace of mind x

Agree see if you can use their farrier and pay for it yourself. Really if they were decent and cared they would have got it done as good will for using your horse but unfortunately some people are right tight wads and cant see further than the end of their nose.

Just pay and stop worrying if it might cause a problem for your animal.

i would say to the loanee that while in her care the shoe is her responsibility as most rescue places who re-home have ownership but the person loaning the horse is still responsible. i would tell her that she needs to get it done right away.. if she refuses then you have the right to take her back as this person was neglectful to thier responsibilities to doing right and not harmful to the horse and then get the horse shod yourself.. after all your know if you ran down the streets and everywhere your horse went barefoot how much that would hurt... even just standing in the stall can be a bit painful.. try the nice approach and if the loanee is a kind person then they will know that its best for the to do right by the horse... i hope this helps you :D
