hi i own a throughabred who is now 17, he had a bad bout of colic a few weeks ago and was nearly pts, thankfully came through all ok but neededs to be carefully monitored , he is allowed alfa a oil and ready mash extra but no mixes and nuts, he lost a lot of weight prior to the colic but has now since put this back on , he has been checked for ulcers and all clear, he has a belly on him but can still see his ribs !! any suggestions greatly appreciated, he also had a episode of tying up also secondary to the colic, he is also on a pre and probitoic, currently very well andno signs of colic at present wouild just like him to look a bit more healthier

Yeah I agree with the other person (sorry forgot your proper name!!) its true i rode a part bred arab, who had previously had a worm burden and had then been treated with a very strong veterinary sourced wormer, the horse wasnt mine. He belonged to a local riding school, and was in his late teens, so that could be an explanation. He could have some wormy issues, though i am sure that you take all the neccessary precautions, it cant hurt to make sure, as long as your vet and stuff agree. If in doubt talk to your local vet, their trained to deal with this sort of stuff all the time. :) Good luck with your horse and all the best for the future. :)

That's the first thing I thought of was worms by your description of him. I found boiled linseed good for my mare, do you exercise him and if so why can you not feed any mixes I also fed my mare baileys no 1 for condition.

hi he is all up to date re worming and also do regular worm checks also, own field and poo picked regualry also, he is not allowed any mixes or nuts incase this triggers another tying up episode or colic xx

also with that history - do you split his feeds up again? when my horse had colic, he was on 4 feeds a day for a very long time afterwards but it did get the weight back on (he was 7/8 tb)

hi yes his feets are spilt he gets fed between 5 am and 6am and then luch time and then pm feed soemtimes that gets split into 2 depending on what shift i am working. i am not to concerned re weight at present but providing he does not colic but ideally in next few weeks would expect him to be putting more condition on fingers crossed.
