Well as some of you may have noticed from my other posts i am looking to breed from my mare, this is to breed my next long term riding horse when she has to retire.
I went to see a stallion yesterday who was 14hh not 14.2hh as advertised, he was perfect aside from the lack of height
Now my mare is 14.2hh and ideally i want a 14.2hh again from her. All of this stallions heritage are in fact bigger than him, so i dont know whether to risk it or not, i dot mind getting something of 14.1hh, but ideally no smaller
The thing is as my mare is more mature now i dont want to put her with a much larger stallion as i feel this will add more strain to her throughout the pregnancy, because if she were younger i would consider another local stallion who is 16hh. but i feel this would be too much for her now.

What would you do? Would you seriously consider said stallion of 14hh? Or keep looking? Help? I have woken up today thinking maybe? after thinking no initially!! I am not sure, arghh! help please

To be honest I wouldnt take the chance, it would be my luck that the one child of this stallion turned out to be a pygmy!

Its a big responsibility planning to put your mare in foal so you might as well cut out as many of the variables as you can otherwise you may end up with something totally unsuitable or disappointing.

Keep looking.

TBH if you liked everything else about him and he was perfect other than his height I would strongly consider him, or really think about whether you will find the perfect man at the height you want. If he has big horses on his side then the foal may grow to the height you want, as I don't feel two inches off his height would affect it much (could be wrong).

I would keep looking too

bosworth do you mean from the mare or stallion having small first foals? i assume you mean from the mare as i have heard that before

my mare has had 6 foals previously and we bred her with a 13.3hh welsh stallion, they did produce a 14.1hh when i think back

gosh i dont know, such a dilemma! arghh

I would keep looking, I would just be so paranoid at the height of the horse! You'll end up with like a 12.2 that you attach rollerblades to your feet to ride haha!
