Hi can any1 help me witha problem im having with my 15h loan cob ? recently when i school him in the menage and hack out and go showing he tries to nap bak to the horses also he has put a few buks and even a rear in with me, in the menage stopping him is very difficult aswell and turning has gone out of the window as he jus wont .. this is really unusal for him as he was baght as a snaffle mouthed plodder !! my insctructor suggested a wilky but his owner sed no because hes got a soft mouth .. any suggestions on a stronger bit ? he is currently in a eggbutt snaffle. thanks

Have you had his back, tack and teeth checked as this is your first port of call?

Also how long have you had him, could he be trying it on?

A stonger bit will NOT stop him napping, bucking or rearing! Ony schooling will do this (after health issues have been ruled out)

iv had him for about 18months and got back, teeth checked also his saddle was custom made for him as he is a little bit wide been a cob. he hasnt tried it on before this started about 3 months ago schooling has been done more often. would it be best to do more hours in the school then ?

as i said in your other post. Napping is not usually associated with bits. you really need to nip napping in the bud as it can escalate to be a big problem. My mare is extremely nappy when leaving the yard always has been and i am very firm, use lots of leg and a good slap when needed and eventually she will go forward. once shes off the yard i make a fuss of her and we normally have a great hack. Once your boy realises your off to have some fun he may stop napping.

No not more hours in the school as this will just make him stale, when I say schooling I mean if everything has been checked then its a behavioural issue, which means only corect riding/schooling will get him out of it.

Could anything have happened that has caused him to lose confidence?

Could he be bored of his riding routine?
