. Do you think its a good idea, taking into account that it gets really hot here in the summet-35/38 degrees. Answers on a postcard please...

Hi Mairi!

Good to see you back!

I have an Amigo Bug Rug, and I really love it. It keeps the bugs off and doesn't make Marius too hot. Having said that, though, it is rather hotter where you are than in sunny Hampshire. It does reflect the sun, so I think for a dark coloured horse it must keep them cooler.

Here's a site with them on.

HI! thanks me dear. Ive had a look and will be ordering one to have a try out. As a tester Ill use Fuffi who is a dk bay/black who goes ape when the Italian midgies are about

. Marius is pretty dark, isnt he? Its got to be better than spraying allorts all over them and breathing it in while doing so!!

Marius_Mum have you ordered from the site you've linked to? I've just had a look & some of the prices seem really good but I'm always a bit wary of sites I haven't used before. Any feedback?

i have an amigo bug rug
nice rugs, survived last summer with no damage, so they are pretty tough
never had a problem with the horse getting too hot underneath it, but then again our summers are colder than yours!!!
i think for the money they are very good, well made, and well fitting

I bought 3 at the start of last summer - 2 of them didn't even last the week but my thoroughbred kept hers in pretty good nick. I ended up with a boett on the pony and the hunter.

I have 3 and they are fine! I would possibly try a size bigger - mine usually wear fal pro rugs (tried the Fal 160quid silver interactive jobby and it lasted 4 days before the zip broke and the material was all ripped) Anyway, they are 6'3 in fals but in 6'6 amigo bug rugs. I was at a livery yard briefly and everyone got them when they saw mine as the rest were either very expensive or didn't fit well.

tehy go in the washing machine no problem and they also sew easily in the sewing machine to fix tears ( mine spend most of their time playing and they play rough!)

Good value though!

We have really bad midges here at the naf midge spray stuff was pretty good but still think the phaser stuff is the best!

Have you tried masks on them? Mine all wear the horse sense ones which i got cheap in the states but very tough and hard wearing.

So not looking forwaard to our bug season!

No, Nari, I am afraid I don't know about this site. I just googled the rug, and this came up.

Oh well, I'll look at prices on sites I've used before & maybe order something cheap from there before spending lots of money. Thanks for repling
