what else do we need to do? I'm sure its on the BE website somewhere but would like it in English please?
Hat meets requirements, Rodney Powell body protector with shoulder guards. I know you have to get hack checked and tagged but don't know how to do this or where?
Any help gratefully appreciated

Get in touch with BE and make sure you have Day Ticket entry forms so you are ready to go when you decide what to enter. They will check and tag your hat/s (whichever you wear for SJ and XC) in the secretary's tent. If you go and walk the course the day before take them with you as they might do it for you then to save the hassle on the day. You will need a £10 start fee for when you go and declare on the day and get your number - your'll get your times in advance so just allow plenty of time at your first one to find your way around and see how things work. They are generally so well organised that it is hard to go wrong!

You will need to ensure that you and the horse are covered on the day ticket. Then you will have to wait for the day tickets and enter on the appropriate entry form.
You will then await to see if the event ballots, and if you are accpeted. i.e. section and number given.
The hat will be checked at the secretaries tent and tagged accordingly.

The BE website is pretty straightforward and certainly more easy to follow than other governing bodies.

Schedules and rulebooks can be downloaded on the 'downloads' page of the website. Some intro events ballot very heavily though and DTs are always first out so good luck!!

Ok,

You take your hat with you when you arrive and get it tagged by the secretary when you pay your start fee, which is £10 in cash.

You need a medical armband too.

You need your horses passport and vaccs must be up to date.

You need a number bib.

Basic outline is (assuming you've not walked XC the day before):

Arrive, either walk XC then go to sec tent and register and pay start fee, get hats tagged, collect numbers, or do that first then walk course (unless you can walk it between phases - my times are never nice enough for that!).

Tack up and warm up for dressage, do test, be nice and polite to stewards - tell them when you enter warm-up who you are and find the person stewarding your ring. Remember you do not have to go in early, but be nice about saying no.

Go to SJ and find out if they are running late, running to time, running in number order or slotting people in. Watch a few rounds to check you know the course. If you are really lucky, walk the course. Tack up and warm up accordingly. Jump nice clear round, thanking nice steward people and nodding to judges when you enter ring.

Check running times for XC and tack up/warm up accordingly. If you are me, return to the lorry several times to pick up various forgotten items such as whip, medical armband and number bib. Go XC and cheer loudly when you come through finish!!

Don't forget you can't carry a whip in the dressage (ok for warm up) and can't wear boots in dressage on the horse.

Always tell the warmup stewards you have arrived for each phase. If you are ready to go then tell them you are happy to be slotted in if they have a gap.

Have I missed anything?

haven't got a bib do they hire them or do we buy one? What about a medical card?
Will get sis to email BE as her ticket was a free one from Horse magazine

First you need to decide which event you would like to go to and check out when entries open. Get your entry in as soon as possible, but not before this date. Entries close quite a while before the actual event, so be aware. Some classes also fill up quite quickly.

Prior to the event, you will need to check your times, where and when to get them will be listed at the same place you got your initial information.
On the day, allow yourself PLENTY of time to travel, arrive and settle in. If it is your first event, it can be quite nerve- wracking so remember to breathe and relax!!!

You will get your hat tagged when you attend your first event. Take it with you when you collect your numbers (and pay your starting fee). Just ask there and they will point you in the right direction. Don't forget you will need a bib and armband (correctly filled in).

If you haven't got one already, get yourself a rule book and a few years back Your Horse magazine did a little booklet as an introduction to eventing. That's what gave me the nerve to have a go - everything was in there, in English if you can get hold of one from somewhere. Try ringing the BE office.

Enjoy, once you get going, you will get addicted and join. People are really friendly and helpful. Don't be frightened to ask if you need advice on the day.

only the bit about running to the toilet every 5 mins prior to start with nerves

Yes, she can wear spurs in the dressage. She must wear gloves too in the dressage.

The rule book gives you an idea of what you can lunge in (if you need to) - basically side reins but there are a few minor variations!

You can use a grakle for dressage (unlike BD) but bits are the same as for BD, so a variation on the snaffle theme. However (and i may put this to good use this year!) you can warm up in any tack which is legal for any of the phases - so you could warm up in say a pelham for the dressage but switch to a snaffle just before you go in for the test.

Ask on the day - I always get chatting to my neighbours and people will 99 times out of 100 be very nice.

Aw thanks

he's quite straightfoward as is ridden and controllable (unlike Piglet

) in a french link hanging cheek snaffle and cavesson even when jumping or going XC!

No unfortunately i dont think I do know you.My son has just set up this for me!! not technologically minded really nowadays. haha.
I only really read yours because im interested in competition !! Hope thats ok!!!

Make sure your insurance covers you for affiliated events before you go - some are a higher premium than for unaff. I did my first three-day event with my horse not insured as I didn't realise my policy at the time didn't cover three-days!

haha. good good.

oh yes, insurance! what a pain that is. Once you say your doing affiliated events my premium did go up slightly! so very good point, especially for a 3 day.
