I am really stuck I have gone to uni to do BSC equine sport science, I am in my second year and have found that I love saddlery. Has anyone got any advice on how you become a saddle fitter, I have looked on the internet but it comes up with all sorts of stuff.
Thanks

I think you would need to do the Master Saddlers course and THEN do the course offered by Kay Humphries and colleagues - many people find that Master Saddlers don't always meet their needs, but it is still a good qualification to have.

And then you go to the people that horse owners have turned to in desperation when their Master Saddlers saddle didn't fit.

sbloom and cremedemonthe on here are both saddlers/fitters and may also be able to advise on different routes. It might depend if you want to do your own leatherwork or not (CDM does this)

I am old school, went to Cordwainers in Hackney and saddle fitting and flocking was part of the course as was making one.
It's based at Capel Manor now here:

whether saddle fitting is still part of the course I am not sure so you need to ask them before you decide on anything.
If it's just the fitting side you wish to learn do you have any good local saddlers or fitters that may be willing to instruct you?

I don't know if it matters but my current saddler seems to spend half the summer at music festivals with a saddlery/leather work tent and the rest of his time on film sets! :D He is also really good at fitting saddles when he is at home!

Fantastic advice - if you follow it you will be in huge demand. Even if you don't I urge you to watch Kay fit; she's amazing.
