Advice on breeds for rehoming please

Sorry you've had an emotional day collecting Bailey's ashes. Its kind of you to donate his things so benefit other dogs, it's not an easy thing to do.

Bit awkward to not have a time, its generally better to have all involved /household there to be sure everyone is on board with getting a dog.

I've done a few home visits, basically i just check its safe for a dog indoors & out, though I don't usually check upstairs when dog will be kept downstairs. I have list of questions to go through, some rescues probably ask similar via a form or phone pre-check. We also discuss type of dog they are looking for & what things they need it to cope with (travelling, kid friendly etc) and what behaviors they are happy to work on & what not, some may need housetraining & basic obedience training. Its ok if someone wants an easy slot in dog, its just to match them to right dog & avoid a dog being returned. Its a good opportunity for adopters to ask questions too. Its really nothing to worry about :)

Thank you 2greys for the home check info - yes it's a bit frustrating not know when she'll appear - she said she'd give us a couple of hours notice though which at least gives my parents time to pop over.

I'd prefer to be there but my OH and dad both know what we are looking for and hopefully I'll be able to have a chat with the relevant people during the dog walk tomorrow. I'm not necessarily looking for a perfect slot in dog but there are certain things that are a definite no i.e. cannot be left on it's own for a few hours, aggression issues with other dogs. I'm happy to work on socialisation, lead training etc as these dogs do seem to adapt well to their new lives as pets with a bit of time and patience.

There are a few dogs that are still in their "first step" kennels i.e. they've been surrendered to the charity but not placed into foster care yet. I'm not sure if you can rehome direct from the kennels or if they insist on fostering first but that would also be an option for the right dog.
