Hi, sorry I haven't posted in a long time, just wanting a bit of advice about changing the joint supplement that my horse is on, you all seem to have useful opinions and I'm sure you've all tried a range of them!

My horse is 10 this year, and has mild arthritic change (ringbone) in his left pastern after injuring his suspensory ligament, that happened before I got him and I have had him for two years. I got him as a project to bring back into work after his injury and he has been fine ever since, he is in work and used for hacking and schooling mainly, a few local dressage competitions and a bit of showjumping, but not on grass. He has been on Mobifor since I have had him, I think he would probably be ok without it but I would like to keep him on something to help prolong his soundness. Is it advisable to change joint supplements after a while of using the same one? Can anyone recommend anything other than Mobifor for him? I was advised to use it by his previous vet as he said that it was the most economic way of giving him everything that he needs (glucosamine, MSM, antioxidants).

Thanks, Natassia x

What I would check carefully is the level that the key ingredients is fed in Mobifor so you can compare other ones.
Some companies are a bit sneaky and will say it costs so much per day to feed or one tub will last 30 days but that will be at a low maintenance dose and you may need to feed more.

To give you an example, I got what I was told was a 28 day free sample of a product. It was a really good comprehensive blend however when I checked to give say glucosamine at the recommended 1000mg per day I would have to feed 4x which then becomes an 7 day supply.

Thanks for the replies, I was only thinking of changing because I was concerned that Mobifor would gradually lose its effect when taken for a long time. I'll look into the ones that are mentioned, also I remember seeing a comparison chart for joint supplements somewhere online so will look it up.

A friend uses Superflex on her horse with spavins, anyone else recommend this?

I used to use Superflex, with very good results, only swapped to Flexadin as it has Devil's Claw already in it and one of my horses was on superflex+Devil's Relief. The Flexadine worked out cheaper, and, as it turns out actually better:)

Nutrilabs that make mobifor are the same company as NAF that make Superflex. Mobifor is the vet strength version of Superflex so you would be swapping to a lower strength version of the same thing.

There's a comparison chart here but it's not complete.
