I’m old. I’ll be 53 in May. ? I have a lovely little 15h Connie, and I recon 10 - 15 more years of competing and fun rides in us, so I’m thinking of buying us a trailer.
I’ll be towing with a 4 wheel drive car with 1800kg towing capacity and it won’t be every week, and as I say I’m old, so my licence allows me to tow ? I’m not likely to be off road very much or parking on muddy cross country courses, I want something I can manoeuvre solo & he loads and travels like a dream, so a single box isn’t going to be an issue I hope, especially as we’re unlikely to travel over an hour on any one journey.
I’m drawn to the Cheval and have a local dealer. I’d like a used one, but not ruling out new. Any and all advice and experience please!

I have a double and love it. I can push it around single handedly, and it tows like a dream. They have a special suspension fitted which makes them really smooth for the horse. I'd highly recommend them!

Check out the strength and build quality of Cheval Liberte trailers very carefully before you get one.

They are very smart looking trailers, but they are light in weight for a reason . I went to view them at the main UK dealer fully expecting to buy a new one, but left empty handed.

I had one and loved it, everything travelled well in it. Watch out for floors in older ones (ie pre 2013 I think) as there was a spate of the wrong ply used. Fwiw Batesons have a lighter double trailer than the cheval mare and foal.

I've got the one with the ramp you can open sideways, I think its called a barn door or similar, and its the most genius design. I've just been filling it with stuff to take to the tip this morning and it makes it so easy!

We have a double. Before buying in 2013? we were advised to ensure we bought one with the Pullman suspension as the ride for the horses is so much better. We gave both types a road test and that was clearly true.

Plus points:
Easy to handle.
Easy to wash inside and out (still looks good).
Well ventilated.
Minus points:
The rear netting blind, obviously lets rain in if parked facing the wrong way. The bungees holding the blind in place perish but can easily be replaced by buying camping ones.
