Hello, im new to the forum and would just like a little advice.
Ive got 2 horses, Koda a 5 year old irish draft cross welsh cob and Romeo a 3 year old native cob, previously they have both been left all winter without rugs but Romeo will be broken this year and they will be lightly worked in winter nothing too extensive and im just wonder what sort of trim i will need to give them?
I would also like to know what sort of rugs i will need they are stabled at night and have no shelter in there winter and wet weather paddocks.
and finally wheres the best place to get rugs from cheaply since i would need to buy them all this year before winter comes
thanks in advance :D

If in light work I would go for a Chaser clip.

What I do is have light turnouts (currently have 40g turnouts from Premier Equine, which also have detachable necks) and then use Amigo Insulator stable rugs in 150g or 300g to use underneath depending on the weather :) Makes it very easy and cheap as they just stay in these whether in or out and I can adjust according to the weather with 3 rugs!

Townfields are good for the Amigo rugs...

Maybe just take off the neck and belly (bib clip) if your not going to be working them that hard. Then just get some light weight rugs with detachable neck covers.

I would start with a neck and chest type clip to begin with if its your first clip.

If both are good doers I wouldnt worry about a stable rug if the stable is draft free. To be honest I barely used my stable rugs this year just left turnouts on or left horse naked.

I would for your guys have a lightweight no fill (I recommend weatherbeeta/ masta if they are wide chested) for a bit of wind and rain.

And get a medium weight with a neck that you can take off when it gets cold and when colder/ windier you can put neck on (on ebay axiom are really good1200d and 1800d are fully waterproof as well 600d is not).

I find with natives they dont like getting too hot which then results in damaged rugs and rugs being rubbed etc.
And to be honest your better under rugging than over rugging. If your horse has access to good grass/ hay then they wont get hypothermic cold.

Heres my neck and shoulder/ chest.

Ignore the kink in it, blunt blades right at the end.
