advice on clipping and trimming please

okies..pont is in need of a good tidy up so 2moro his mane and tail are going to start being pulled in the hope he looks a bit tidier!

however he has the fluffiest ears and a nice beard at the moment which I want rid of as his beard gets caught in his bridle wehn im buckling it up andhe is are getting mucky and filthy,

does anyone have any tips for doing this safely and reasonabley easily so it still looks tidy?

Ears- gently close the ear with one hand a then use clippers or sissors on anthing that sticks out. keeps their inner ear protected but still tidy. Its one of the few things that sissors do as good a job and clippers.

As for the beard our heavies are pretty prone to this, i tend to put headcollar around the neck and the put horses head over my shoulder, one hand on nose and other with the clippers. I tend to do it in 3 strokes, one- clippers flat against jaw straight down from cheek to chin then a slightly angled stroke on each side to tidy edges. I do always do faces with someone else around just because you dont have the best control, unless its mags when you don't even have to tie him up for any of it! lol

Thats how I do it anyway, there are a few different methods and i guess the head on shoulder thing wouldn't work with something little!

I used scissors on the ears, clippers are too noisy closing the ear edges together.

My clydey x highland gets a beard and causes nose band problems and I clip this with a pair of trimmers. Luckily my horse is so good, I dont need a headcollar and just trim a little at a time until I get it the length I want it. I leave his whiskers.

Remember you can always take a bit more off, but you cant put it back on again!

Cant really go wrong tidying up the jaw line/beard as long as you take your time and if it is a bit untidy, it doesnt matter as its not an area which is easily seen and grows in very quickly. Practice makes perfect and all that.
