I go to Merrist wood in guildford and am doing a HND is equine management.
Now i enjoy the academic part of my course although i dont find it as challenging as i would like but being here has sucked all the joy out of riding for me.

i feel mean when i ride my horse as i get annoyed with him when he wont work properly where as before i would give him some time and he would work nicely after a while.

im worried that if i stay here ill lose all enjoyment and have to sell him which i really dont want to do.

should i leave and do another degree (microbiology) that im really rather keen on?

I also did the HND at Merrist Wood 10 years ago!

I also found being there took all the enjoyment out of riding and also ended up making me loose confidence in my self so badly that i walked away from a career with horses and didnt ride at all for over 8 years. Ive only just recently bought my first horse since leaving and am starting to believe in myself again with help from a wonderful instructor.

To be honest the qualification you'd end up with really doesn't mean much. Most yards want experience not qualifications anyway unless you want to teach but you can still do your BHS stages without being at college.

Id go with you gut instinct and change to something you really want to do before its too late. I wish id done that rather than waste two years on something ill never use now.

Thank god someone who knows what im talking about!

no one else seems to understand what i mean.

i really dont want to hate it so much that i have to get rid of my horse because i love him so much and he's soo great.

think leaving would be the right way to go but they keep making me feel guilty about it
