Hi due to the ongoing wet weather and thrush issues I’d like to look into creating a dry lot paddock. Is anyone that has done this able to advise how much it cost them and for what size? Although I can find information about it there are no coatings anywhere! I will be getting a quote but would like to prepare myself! I’d like it to be at least large enough for 2 horses

many thanks

around a quarter of an acre for 2 as a minimum. lots of stone a couple of lorry loads so about 32 tonne at a round £50 a tonne so about £1600 to £2000. you may need planning permission.

I made a cheap and cheerful loafing area outside the old cob's stable - COPD and recommended to have access to the great outdoors at all times. It is approximately 20 feet x 20 feet, friend who owns a scaffolding firm gave me the safety netting he could no longer use through damage, which made a good base layer, and local tree surgeon gave me a transit tipper load of shredded leylandii which covered the area to a depth of around six inches. It is good enough for one to loaf and roll on. It has been down over eight years and needs a top up of shreddings every three years or so. It probably wouldn't stand up to playful horses though.

I have a 20x20 approx dry lot . Base layer of rubble and then covered in MOT type 1. Cost £4000 and you do need planning permission to move any soil I have since found out. I am very happy with it other than it is a bit too stoney in some places. It is an absolute god send in winter especially but also because I have 2 ems ponies that can’t have much grass turnout

huh, I'm intrigued by this because I was recently quoted nearly £2k for a 2m wide 45m long track and now that sounds way off! That was with me disposing of the soil elsewhere onsite as well, rather than paying to have it taken away.

They moved the soil into a pond that I had filled in on sight. Cash job ?

Mud control mats. Compared to buying Type 1 and 2, spreading and compacting, and if you get enough water it will still hole, I know because I have spent £10k on drainage, control mats are a quicker cheaper DIY option. I have cows and horse on them.
