My mare is currently placing at elementary level and I am looking at starting to ride her in a double bridle. She is only 13.0hh and has a tiny, very petite face (wears a shetland sized bridle) and I am worried about finding appropriate bits that fit in her mouth without causing discomfort. I have been looking at different types and they often look like they have very thick mouthpieces. I understanding that this is usually kinder in a bigger horse, but when she has such a tiny mouth, I need something thinner so everything fits in! Is anyone else with a similar pony able to recommend any brands or types that might suit?
Many thanks!

Tom thumb double bridle bits will be suitable they are used on ponies in the show ring and are especially made for petite heads and mouths, fylde saddlery sell them or you can often pick them up secondhand.

Just had a google and the horse bit shop sell them but when you Google be sure to put double bridle bits as there is an entirely different kind of bit just called a tom thumb.

Any reason for changing to the double? You can compete up to PSG in a snaffle?

Might be worth looking at places that specialize in showing, as there are some pretty dainty ponies that are ridden in doubles.
