I am in the process of looking for my first horse to buy and I am getting in a right tizz wazz over what to accept and what not to accept in a horse. There always seems to be something niggling me!

I have recently been to see a 5yr old ISH who has not been kept on enough bedding prior to being shipped over. He has capped hocks and I'm not sure if his knees are flat enough (although I could be obsessing and both knees were the same!). He also has a tiny (cold and formed) splint which I'm not worried about. He's priced at £4500.

I'm not sure if an experienced eye can shed any light from the following pictures but would really appreciate some input.

Thanks guys!

I've no experience of either. I would say if you do like the horse then get him vetted and ask for attention to be paid to his hocks and knees. £4500 is quite a price tag in current market conditions, so make sure he's worth it.

Hi,

I'd be a bit worried about the knees is it a recent swelling or has it been like that for a while? The problem with the capped hocks be careful how much work you do as they can flare back up. I'm sure when you have a vetting the vet will tell you all about it. How many horses have you seen ? Trina
