advice on homing a hill pony

Hello,

I am seriously considering offering a home to a dartmoor hill pony-I do have 30yrs of experience with horses but have never had a hill pony or a youngster. I just wondered if anyone has homed one and if they had any advice/tips.:)

The best advice I can give for a feral youngster, is don't waste your time sitting on buckets, offering food and hoping they'll come round! When they arrive, give them 24 hours to settle, then get hold of them by any means necessary, and once they've realised your not going to kill them and eat them, take it from there :D

My feral foal came round from total terror, to leading, being groomed all over and picking his feet up within a few days. I spent 48 hours sitting on a bucket trying to tempt him over before I realised he just wouldn't ever come over as he didn't need to...

^ is very good advice & the same as what I've done over the many years of having Fell ponies off the hills, and also Exmoors as wild as hatters, as well as other natives :D
Those done that way were the most amenable to do in the end
