Begging of January, we had the vet out as pony as pony was showing signs of lami we did as advised shoes of stable rest now 6 weeks on we’ve had X-rays, and blood test to test on Metabolic rate, as mare has been on 9kg of steamed hay for this duration and hasn’t lost weight in this time, I have attached X-rays, but I’ve had advice from two vets and two farrier and they all have different advice, so I’ve come to see if any one has any, from the look of feet and X-rays they are saying there is no sign of lami, but they still want me to box rest, then think about bar shoes

Well you've got sidebone, badly unbalanced feet, slight rotation, slightly thin soles, and I wouldn't expect 9kg a day of steamed hay to take weight off a pony, my 600kg mare has 7kg soaked, not steamed (that won't reduce sugar) , which maintains her weight, she needs 6kg to reduce it.

There's so much going on there I think you need to get a good foot professional and a vet you trust working in tandem.

Sorry this is a bit blunt but there doesn't seem a gentle way to say it :(

As said the balance of the hoof looks wrong. The horse is clearly barefoot, but how often are you getting them trimmed/corrected? Balance can make so much difference to soundness. There is a pretty clear flare happening which can be bad trimming but also issues further up in the horse..but a good balanced hoof will help other issues too as its in the horses best interest to have everything in line.

It would be interesting to see a picture of this same leg/hoof from the outside

Just wanted to say my horse has large side bones and now goes much better in boots than shoes. The extra suspension of the boots makes him much happier.

I can see why you are struggling. The rotation is the most immediately worrying thing, as we are about to go into spring and that is already indicating that the pony is probably laminitic. I can't understand why you were told to feed 9kg of steamed hay, the pony needed to be on 1.5% of its correct bodyweight, soaked, if weight loss was the aim, which depending on the size of the pony, could be half that much.

I'm not an expert so I'm probably wrong. Do you think that is rotation though or just a toe that's got really long? I can see that the pedal bone is not parallel with the front hoof wall but it does seem to be well aligned with the pastern bone above it so I wasn't sure if it was actually rotation or not?

As I said I'm probably wrong but possibly something good to learn about either way.

I think the increasing distance between the bone and the hoof wall is worrying and I'm not sure the alignment is correct, but I'm no expert at x rays for lami. The vet who prescribed 6 weeks in the box is clearly worried, but the diet advice is inexplicable if that's the case.
