Advice on payment of livery

I used to pay cash but the YO was never around so I'd leave it with his kids, wife, groom and often i would get a note saying I hasn't paid and then I'd have to remember who I'd left it with, day, time etc to prove I'd paid.
In the end I held on to to cash until I saw him, sometimes it was months worth but he always managed to find me for the money...only time I ever did see him!!
Leave a note that your not happy to leave cash lying around and you want to give it him personally and arrange a convenient time for both of you.

I haven't read all the thread but refuse to pay cash due to due to the security issues. Stuff what the YM says about wanting cash to pay for things. Pay with a cheque & the YM can go to the bank & withdraw cash to spend on whatever he wants. It's not up to you to provide a 'float' for the use of the YM.

Banks charge small businesses stupid fees to withdraw cash in some cases .
If they stand firm ,they want cash not a lot you can do except say you won't leave it they have to be there for you to give it too them and give you a receipt.
Move on they as all you can do if they want cash that's their right it's legal tender it's OPs right to move on .

True but the OP said that others are paying into the bank. When I had a business account it worked on a set fee for each transaction not a percentage of the amount going in or out.

In theory yard might be better letting the OP pay direct and insisting on cash for the others as paying in and withdrawing one larger sum could incur fewer charges than 6 individual ones.

However as you say they can insist on cash and I wouldn't want to upset them that much that you have to find space for 6 at short notice, it was bad enough finding space for 2 when the private yard I was on closed last year.

However as I said before I would insist on handing it over face to face and a receipt. You could buy a receipt book at WHSmiths and have it and a pen at the ready.

Any legitimate business would want a clear audit trail for all income and would therefore want the moneys received paid in to their bank account.
Just make quite sure that you get a signed and dated receipt for each cash payment that is made so that there can be no unfortunate misunderstandings.

I pay by cash but only because it is convenient for me,and i pay weekly. You should never be forced to pay that amount in cash, every yard i have been on has always given us the option of various ways to pay. Defo sounds like a tax fiddle- but that is there problem and not yours! Stand by your guns- Nobody wants to loose 6 horses!

600 quid stuffed in a shed! This is a ridiculous notion, I get twitchy if I have to leave £20 unattended. I'm inclined to think, as others do, that the owner doesn't know you're there and the manager is hoping to pocket the lot. I can only advise that you keep looking, tbh, because I wouldn't trust them to honour your agreement anyway.

OP, you are a beneficiary under a trust and have to account for all your outgoings to the trustees accountant so must have a receipt. That is because your uncle, who left the money in trust, was a bit eccentric. No receipt, no money, no horses. Yep, uncle was a funny old coot when it came to money! :)
