Advice on pheasant shoot

Is there a law how far a shoot should be in regards to a residential property with surrounding fields with horses in, I had an incident today with the local shoot they were so close I could see them walking around my boundry hedge and a bird came down in my field yards from where my horses were, the noise of the guns going off was so loud it really upset them and the dog, they are usually very good the days the shoot is running but they have never got that close before.

I did go over to speak to someone on the shoot and he didn't believe a dead bird was in my field until I handed it to him, I am not very happy with them being so close surely it's not safe because someone must have shot in the direction of my house to get that bird.
 
I can't help you with your question per se, but I just wanted to say that whoever shot the bird would not have been shooting in the direction of your house. Once a bird is shot, they can turn into gliders (they continue in the air, with their wings out, but not flapping them) and they can glide for several hundred metres easily. Makes them hard to find when picking up! That is probably why the guy didn't think there was a bird in your field as it would have been shot some distance away.


I'm assuming your local shoot is a syndicate of guns, rather than a private shoot - may be have a quiet word with one, and ask to be told when they're shooting near you, so you can take evasive action with your horses if you want to.
 
There is no limit from a boundary except where that boundary is a road - where it is only 25 m. If there is a house then I think it's again 25 m which is, I agree, not very far! However, most shoots don't want to upset the neighbours so it may be worth a chat...
 
My horses are on a farm where a shoot is based and they can even be in their field! They get pretty used to it though and we know all the dates in advance (mostly Saturday's and not before 9.30am)

oh okay thank you I didn't think of it like that I was just a bit worried as one guy was walking and shooting on my boundary hedge just a few yards from the horses and they did react by charging round the field, I did speak to the guy that was closest he did say he would give me knock next time they are so close to me so I suppose that's all I can hope for.
 
I am also next door to a farm that has 30 plus horses in fields that are very close to mine those horses were charging round as well I think it would just be sensible for them to let us all know when they are going to be so close again, I will find out who runs it and just drop them an email I think just to say if they can let us know when they will be in the adjoining fields.
