hi guys, would love some advice/info on recovery time and any beneficial do and dont's for my adult horse (5yrs) whos just been castrated. I understand the swelling will be very bad but have been advised that can continue exercise after just one week. Any advice welcomed. thanks
sorry, in CR & NL

Pretty much as you have been advised really. If the swelling gets v v bad then (try!) to hot and cold compress th area and cold hose for 20mins twice daily. Wlk him out in hand for 10-20mins twice daily anyway - hand graze maybe. I assume he is on Neopen or similar for the next few days? As long as there are no complications you should be back in ridden work in about a week.

Is he in or out?

IME, horses are always better off out and walking about than stood in to help with swelling.

I had a 7 yr old castrated a couple of years back. He lived out and was done in his field shelter as he was semi-feral. He had very, very little swelling and was right as rein in no time.
