Hello all, been a while since I have posted but here goes!!!
My amazingly silly horse managed to tear a muscle in her hindquater. It is literally like a big hole in the muscle of her bum. Had the vet out and he has said the healing could take months, it all depends on the horse and how quick she heals, but to keep her in very light work.
So far I have walked her in straight lines for about 10-15mins on the road. Well I started today as I was advised to let her have a week or so off to let it start healing.
Now, I was a bit shocked that he said I could ride her after she came off her weeks bute, and I am starting her very very slowly. As he has suggested.
How would you go about rehabbing a horse with an injury of this nature? I intend to stay in walk for 3-4 weeks building up say 5 mins a week on her exercise time and keeping her in straight lines.
She is sound in walk, just a bit stiff, but was eager and forward going today when I rode. She is still a bit lame in trot and canter (when the eejit flies around the field like a loon!!!)
What would you do? I am just interested to see what peoples opinions would be on this kind of injury, and how would be the best course of action to get the muscle to heal properly. I don't care how long it takes as long as it heals strong (if you see what I mean!!)
