My daughter is looking forward to next year (I am thinking ahead to christmas !!!) Plans are to do a bit of jumping at novice / local pony club level with probably some cross country.

What type of outfit should we be looking at ? i.e. tweed / hacking jacket / black or navy

I am trying to plan ahead if the jumping goes well etc and she progresses a little past pony club ( our local one does not appear to have a dress code - everything goes)

I am asking my daughter to consider which look! she likes but hoping to steer her in a direction that wont need a complete overall / rethink if she progresses.

What do you think to chestnut mare with black saddle and tack - colour suggestions for numna, brushing boots etc and do they need to match my daughters outfit.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading. Any suggestions/ ideas gratefully received.

In terms of numna black to match the saddle. Tweed jacket because many DCs think that black is common, and don't get White jodhpurs cream is best. Boots I would just go for simple boots but coloured staps would be fine. Hope this is helpful

Hiya,

For PC tweed is correct with beige or cream breeches (never white with tweed!). Matching colour boots and chaps (black or brown) and a blue or black hat (or silk if you have a skull cap already). Gloves are optional for non-PC activities, but most instructors/DCs will insist on gloves and hairnet.

Black tack is fine, teamed with a white/cream numnah always looks nice. The colour of the boots doesn't matter too much but I think that it looks nice to have them matching your tack.

You can wear the above to pretty much any grass roots level competition/rally.

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks for the replies - really useful

What does DC stand for ?

WHen talking about tweed is that the green / brown look or could it be grey / blue look.

Thanks x:rolleyes:

DC's are the District Commissioners who run the Pony Club branches voluntarily.

Definitely a green/brown tweed would look best with a chestnut pony. Tweeds these days tend to have several colours running through them, so you could pick one of the other colours out for her tie etc. and the other accessories you're looking to get.

Sorry - DC stands for Disctrict Commissioner - the 'boss' of a branch of a pony club.

You could go for either colour with the tweed - mine is green and navy blue, with a bit of purple in. One of my friend's is blue with bits of pink in.. So really its up to you!

:)

As above. Would go for tweed. Also check out ebay for jackets. You can get lovely ones very reasonably because children have very annoying habit of growing out of them with virtually no wear.

Tweed is very versatile and correct for a range of disciplines. Personally, I think a green/brown tweed looks better than blue or grey. Team it with a navy velvet hatcover.

Although your own Pony Club may not have a dress code, if your daughter progresses to doing Area Pony Club team competitions, there will then be strict turn-out rules. For example, numnahs or saddlecloths should be white, navy, brown or black with no extra decoration. I'd keep brushing boots to plain colours like brown or black as well.
