Hi,

I really want to go on an intensive horse riding holiday where I can jump, do cross country an enjoy some long gallops. I would say that I am an confident novice. I have just started competing in cross country and show jumping up to 2ft 6 and would be happy up to 2ft 9-3ft depending on the horse. I have plenty of things that I need to work on, such as keeping my lower leg in the right place all of the time, my jumping position etc - the list is endless!

I want to go on a holiday where I can really develop my riding - I am not really interested in plodding along on a hack every day.

My friend said she went to Italy years ago and she felt it had a big impact on her riding. I would like to do something similar - but I would love to hear about people's experiences.

I am interested in places in the UK and further a field.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Kate

There's a place in Ireland I've seen lots of ads for over the years that I've always thought looked good, if I could afford it.

It's castle Leslie (I think). Never been there, but they offer the kind of thing you're thinking of...if I've got the name right!

There might be some other suggestions on the riding holidays section of the main H&H website - http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/riding-holidays/

Yes castle Leslie is the place to go! A cheaper alternative would be Annaharvey farm. These are both in Ireland. I have stayed at both and would recommend

Paddy who runs the place is fantastic!! I had some hilarious lessons with him. Hes very good for teaching good style for SJ. He and Aiofe took me XC which was so much fun! And we went for a splash in the sea too! Very good time. Can't remember £££ though, he did us a discount rate as we were staying in the holiday cottages and I was riding 1-2 times a day!

Thanks guys, I will have a look a them. I have heard of that castle Leslie place - I will have a look and see if I can afford it! please keep suggestions coming ;o)

What about the Yorkshire Riding Centre if you are looking for some intensive training whilst on holiday? They will put together a course on your own horse or one of their own schoolmasters.

I have stayed at Castle Leslie for three days and we had arranged to ride there whilst we were staying and was VERY disappointed in the quality of horses available to us as we were staying the weekend after the local schools October holiday. They never told us it was an issue at time of booking, only when we arrived and must admit were really apologetic when they assessed our riding and realised the standard of our riding. I have heard great reports of Castle Leslie but be careful when you go as I would not go again after a schools holiday when all their horses been heavily worked the week before.
