?Advice on selling quirky horse

Does anyone have any bright ideas. My mum and i are trying to sell our lovely dun gelding. He is a really sweet horse who we think has been badly treated in the past. He is spooky and is very wary of strangers. So when people come to see him they really like him until they come to get on him. He gets tense and last weekend panicked with an experienced rider and she ended up on the arena floor. Does anyone have a similar experience or advice to help us sell our lovely horse to the right 5* home.
 
How big is the pony and where are you?

I have sent a link to this thread to a friend of mine who used to have a lovely dun pony and hankers after another - also she is very good with quirky horses and has a lot of experience with 'projects'.

I don't know if she's in a position to buy at the moment but you never know.
 
This is probably not what you want to hear but I sold my very quirky horse to a perfect perminant home by seriously dropping the price and we saw ALOT of people before letting him go.

I wasn't bothered about the money and just wanted the best forever home when I couldn't look after him anymore.
 
I have one like this that I have in the past tried to sell. What I managed to do, was find a way to deal with him being tense when other people got on. The problem I had, was getting people to get on him for me as they'd seen what he would do. Anyway, once I'd sussed that out, when people came to try him, I'd tell them exactly what to do to prevent being dumped. Although people were a bit nervous when getting on, he and they were fine when they did as I asked.
Decided not to sell in the end ... but that's another story!
There'll be somebody for him out there, just keep trying.
 
We've just sold my daughters quirky pony - much the same situation as your boy, been used and abused in the past. We had several folks try her and the pony told us when it was the right people, who did in fact buy her and collected her last night. So long as you're realistic about the money and make sure you get the right people then you should be fine.
 
ive just sold my mare, she can be an evil cow to handle and isnt anyones ride, shes 15.3, so i wanted to put off teenagers after a pc horse, so i worded the ad as... has only ever been a fit competiton horse so needs a confident rider...

it done the trick and got round the issues of no novices... not novice ride etc!
