Having come to the realisation that my horse is officially broken, and will not come sound enough to do what I want (its long and miserable, and he is having x rays today to confirm) I am officially window shopping for a horse. If someone wants a Pink papered warmblood with Landraff/Accord II lines as a hack, and to do light riding club – he would be really happy doing that too, please let me know.

Basically, I don’t want something that anyone else has messed up. Much of Bruce problem has been created by the idiot that educated him for the first year and thought it appropriate to hammer him and get him jumping higher when he was underdeveloped and his bones were still growing.

So I want one young – but I want to get going, so 3 ½ - 4 years old. I have no expectations of grandeur – working full time and mortgage see to that, but I would like said horse to have the scope to go and do pre novice/novice eventing, eventually. Anything other than that is a bonus and will probably result in the horse being sold!!!! But ultimately, having a horse that could achieve a novice event would be my #1 dream.

I have the support network to assist me in doing this so it is a realistic aim.

Basically, I need your help in knowing both where, and what I should be looking for, and what I should expect to pay? I have an idea of what’s realistic…but also a budget. I don’t want to be one of these people that pays over the odds for a horse expecting the money paid to account for hard work.

The best advice I had from a top event rider I worked for was to never buy a horse that makes the same mistake twice when jumping (shows that it has brains and is a quick learner), make sure its careful with its front legs (pref bringing knee at least level with elbow when jumping and tucks lower leg in nicely) and don't get something that jumps too high over things as this can be dangerous XC. Try to find a nice mover but you won't need anything too flashy for PN/N. Good luck, hope you find something nice!
