My mare has lots of potential out showjumping she is both very bold and quick but seems to be going too fast into fences and therefor going long, low and flat over the jump causing her to sometimes have a couple down. Can you give me some exercises to get her thinking and collectiong more into the fence to make a better shape over it. She will canter round in between fences nicely but as soon as i turn for the fence she just pulls like mad and speeds up.

had the same prob with my exracer start with trot canter poles and then a tiny grid but yeah seriously i promise grid work grid work grid work!!

My mare's the same. My instructor has been really helpful on this (especially as I quite like being towed into a fence!) Whenever she gets too excitable, he makes me halt on the approach to a fence, sometimes rein back, then to a few transitions on a circle. Sometimes I'll do this three times, but she's always listening and waiting by the end. Then I find she jumps much more sweetly and it's easier to place her.
