Advice on suitable dressage sire for 'hot' Goodtimes mare

Hi,

I'm looking to breed from my Goodtimes mare. She has enjoyed a successful career in dressage and I'm looking to breed something for me for the future to compete BD.
The mare is slightly on the small side at 16.1hh and due to my height I would like to breed something 16.2hh +. Sam is short coupled and has an incredibly powerful back end - IMO she has a lovely front too with a pleasing neck and a well set on head. The thing that is most important to me is that I use a stallion that will enhance rideability/trainability. Sam is a typical Goodtimes and can be hot and very sharp.
I have set myself a semen budget (fresh/chilled only) of no more than £1000.
I really liked the look of Paul. s Foundation but looks like he's frozen only.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
 
Have you contacted James Crawford of Elite Stallions. He deals with semen importation of lots of dressage stallions and Foundation is on his site as being available chilled for 1,000. Failing that have you considered First Romancier? I have seen him in the flesh at Paul S's in Germany and he had a lovely kind head. My trainer has two by him. I have a Goodtimes gelding who I did dressage with so I am trying to think of who I would use on him if he was a mare! If you want trainability you can't go wrong with Donnerhall blood. I used Diamond Hit on my mare and the result was a spectacular filly but Diamond Hit won't give you height. You are limiting yourself a bit at £1,000. If you can stretch to £1,500 you can get top producers like Belissimo M and Quaterback.
 
Beltoni is £1000 but frozen only and in UK. I have seen him a few times and thought he was reasonably correct. He would be a risk though as very early on in his career. Offspring look predominately chestnut, fine if you like chestnuts, I can't be doing with them ! He is 16.3h.
 
UK based stallions - would look at Garuda K (trakh) and Treliver Decanter. Both out GP now. Also for temperament Legrande - not competing GP yet but fabulous temperament and seems to pass it on to his babies. Mooiman (KWPN approved) - competed international GP but he is only 16.2hh, although he does throw good sized foals as he is Flemmingh lines (except for one of mine who threw back to her pony great grandmother and stuck at 15.2hh, although she is chunky with it).

Outside the UK have a look at Silvermoon. Sire of Matine. Friend has three by him and they all have amazing temperaments. If you look for Stolen silver sport horses on Facebook she has some pics of her second one who is turning into a very smart event type (the dam is IDSH and event bred herself) and she has a beautiful dressage filly by him as well.

The studs just tell u what u wan to hear.. The proof is in the pudding!! Of course breeding is a lottery . Thanks again
 
I saw on FB, Decanter is retiring from sport so not sure why, & DiMaggio can throw very sharp horses so I'd be careful there.

Woodlander stand a nice DeNiro son, Debonnair, only a 5yo but he has a sensible head, good paces and excellent pedigree for dressage.

Or there is Flammengold by Florestan & similar dam line as Damon Hill.

Or Silva Bedding has Olympic Relevant, by Rubenstein he stands in Devon.
 
thank you vanrim. i am very interested in furst romancier but somebody told me he seems to throw 'jowly' stock?! yes diamond hit lovely but as you say height may be an issue .

Helenz0 have you looked at Santo Hit, stands in the UK chilled semen £650 nffr, has a fantastic temperament with an intelligent trainable brain. Standing 17hh he would add high amd length of limb too as he is a modern type. He is licensed Oldenburg making his foals eligible for Oldenburg passport should you wish (noticed you were looking at Foundation) and has had a really high percentage of foals awarded Foal Premiums by the Oldenburg Verband.
