hi, I have never used studs before but instructor has recomended using so recently bought some supastuds for a show that I will be going to, eventually after hours of browsing I decided on the arena studs. (as I will be doing mostly on artificial surfaces but website state they can be used in muddy ground)

My farrier has done a new set of shoes which has got 2 stud holes in each shoe, I was thinking of just using the outside hole on each shoe but apparently there is chippings and concrete to get to the arena so would be putting studs in at the lorry park so for this reason farrier said put 2 in each shoe so she would be level,

anyway getting to my question should I put the same size studs in each hole?, because I read somewhere that it can be safer for the horse to have smaller studs on the inside hole and also a smaller ones for the front feet to help stop jarring on landing. So dont really know what ones to get now

Studs for artificial surfaces? I've never heard of that. Enlighten me!!

I try to keep the feet level, to load the joints evenly so use the same size on both inside and out. If it's really slippy I put bigger ones in hinds to stop them loosing back ends IME they slip worse behind.

Other than that, not much help except I would invest in some blanks (i think mark todd do them) as they are so easy to use (they come with an allen key) and you can get your farrier to put them in hen he shoes so no messing about with cotton wool and vaseline and tapping out etc. :D

yeah apparently the arena studs are new, I have never really needed them before but as thats what I will be doing mostly for the next few weeks thought I would buy them, wanted them mainly for a derby show on grass next week and to stop back end slipping,

just read on the supastuds website that the arena supastuds can be used with the polo stud in front (which is slightly smaller, :-)

i like the sound of the blanks, I had also bought some travel studs which i was going to put in the night before to save time cleaning etc on the day.

should I just put 2 in each shoe at the back then and not bother with the front, im so sorry for being dull but want to make sure I know exactly what is right and wrong before I use them.
