Advice on weight (or lack of)

OP needs help but from proper professionals on the ground , not from the Internet .

Absolutely.

When one of our old chaps had rapid weight loss one winter (condition score 3 to 1.5 in about two weeks), we pumped him full of weight gain food and oil. But he got worse. Turned out that was the worst thing to do as his liver was packing up, and what he needed was a high fibre low protein diet and some supplements. There is hope though - the old booger went on for another five years after that and once we'd got it cracked he never lost that much weight again.

Good luck, OP.

Did my post say riding her zigzag? No it didn't it stated hunting so yes I did read the thread but I still maintain that bashing each other on a thread like this is pointless and not helping.

I agree, obviously this horse has extreme weightloss but I've also struggled with 2 of mine this year - my 25 yr old native cushings pony now seems to lose weight every winter no matter what I feed him (and rug him up etc.) but he looks particularily bad right now. My competition horse has also lost a lot of weight about a month ago as he got a bit of grass on the field then we got another heap of snow, so he was fed up with hay and thus just stood about scraping at the snow all day! Now the grass is growing, he's slowly putting it back on. But he still looks pretty ribby eventhough he's perfectly healthy and happy otherwise.

but that doesn't mean that a vet would not have routinely looked in the mouth as par for the course.

Everyone seems to be missing the bigger picture, no matter what the op's experience or ability... There is a malnourished horse here.... I'm sorry, perhaps I'm hyper sensitive... No, I defiantly am, but I'm sick of people using poorly horses or any situation as a reason to have a go at others when they should be helping them. I'm not saying op is without fault. I'm saying she needs flipping help, but for most of you out there, helping her is secondary to berating her.

I personally think that's sickening and I simply can't get my head around it. It doesn't matter to me what her faults are or have been, you were all so supportive to me, I wish you could extend the same help now to someone who for whatever reason needs that support and help. Perhaps I have an unnatural belief in humanity.

QB - I cannot read this and not comment. All I would say is that I wish that you would have shown the same compassion and support you speak of here for the poor woman you condemned in a thread you started about her what you saw as an obese pony she was selling. She was neiither a HHOer nor did she seek any advice, however you chose to openly ridicule her horse management on this forum for your own satifaction from seeing and picking up her sales advert.

I have enjoyed reading your threads, but really was shocked and aghast at your behaviour on that one you started. As previously stated noone is the 'perfect owner'.

Agree! Suggest everyone backs off this one as it is starting to get very nasty!
