I'm trying to get my horse looking a bit better i.e. more top line less fat belly!

I'm trying to do plenty of work with him at the mo so maybe

1x 45 min schooling
2x 20 min schooling with short hack
2x 6 mile hacks with lots of trotting and cantering

He's in a small but well kept paddock at night on his own and in with hayledge in the day..

What would you be giving him in terms of hard feed?

I wouldn't be too worried with feed as such, but getting him stretching and taking the contact down. That's going to build him best, as in thattop photo he'sup behind the bridleand hollowing....which you won't be able to build up his topline with him holding himself like that :)

Lot's of correct schooling and lunging :)

Thanks, he doesn't always look like that was just trying to show the belly!

I know plenty of other horses who don't do correct schooling and lunging though and they don't look like Badger! Obviously am trying on that point but not sure what and how much to feed on work load.

I put my overweight horse onto equitop myoplast and Baileys Lo cal (with some alpha a) and the top line difference is amazing! Agree with what binky said though, need to work into the contact rather than being hollow - this is better than any feed!

have you thought about lunging? i find it a useful tool a) to teach things from the ground and b) so you can have a good look at them and how they are going and assess them from there. maybe use a pessoa to encourage him to go long and low.

feeding wise if he isn't having any hard feed don't start not

He needs to fill out over his back, and trim his tummy, that will make him more pleasing to the eye. Think about how you get hunters fit, that is what you need to do, so lots of walk (marching) and trot, canter doesn't really help for toning and triming. I wouldn't be feeding him at all ATM, until he has lost some weight off his belly then I would be looking to see if he was developing muscle or not, and if not then adjust his feeding regime :)
