Advice please about sharing my horse

Can you guys please give me a few pointers on what to expect from a sharer. Here's the deal I am offering. 15.1 13yo tb x con gelding to share but must stay at current yard. He's not a novice horse but would be suitable for a lightweight adult or experienced young person, All I ask is £25.00 p/w to cover costs. Days and times to suit. Do you think this sounds reasonable? I am still happy to see to his everyday needs if it comes to it but would really like somebody nice to ride him.

The horse actually belongs to my daughter and we have had him for 7 years but she works full time and doesn't have enough time to do him justice. I do ride him but have my own horse so he always takes second place at the moment. She has advertised on some website, but to be honest either people can't read ( ad says to stay at current yard but they still ask if he can go to wherever !) or they are ' phoning on behalf of a friend, have never ridden off the lead rein or want to know if 15 stone would be too heavy! and so on.....

I will insist on a contract but if you can think of anything else please help!

sounds fine to me so stick to your guns, the right person will turn up, how about your local pony club? the DC or secretary may know of someone, it sounds like a reasonable request that the horse stays at the yard where he is.

I started sharing 9 years ago - 10 pounds a week for 2 days!!
With me being at college her owner saw to him in the morning and I went in the afternoons and did the jobs and rode. I'm still sharing with the same lady now!

Just don't feel pressured - after all, he's your horse and you can stay with the new sharer and supervise as long/as little as you want and its important you find someone that both you and the horse get on with them.
Could you ride with them on the other horse for the first few weeks?
Stipulate what jobs need doing on a daily (sharer's days) basis eg, mucking out is it deep littered or a full muck out job? Are waters changed daily? Poo picking chores? What feed, if any? Are there more or less jobs in winter?
Leave contact numbers etc in a visible place

Sounds very reasonable to me personally and this is from somenone that has just taken on my 3rd share horse

Personally I think someone who is prepared to muck in and do all the jobs (poo picking, tack cleaning, filling hay nets etc) shows real commitment as they are not just looking to jump on and ride but are prepared to commit to the 'less fun' tasks that come with horses.

I shared without a contract, and luckily it always seemed to work out well. Have you got your advert for us to see? Where are you based?

I think you are asking for a very reasonable amount and a horse share is not a full loan so i dont understand people asking to move yards? ?????? But non the less, my share owners found an advert i had posted looking for a horse to share!! That way they were getting what they wanted, so just a thought have you gazed at the wanted ads? That could work? Other than that try tack shops etc. The only problem we used to have was if one day i would text and say can i do the boys tuesday for instance, and the owner would text back saying sorry were doing them then. This felt a bit harsh as were were paying for the privalidge but at the end of the day it is your horse. We had mixed feelings about this! So i dont know if set days, with a bit of flexibility, would work for you? Good luck finding a sharer!!!
