As the title suggests, I'm struggling and baffled. And I'll start from the beginning.
Coblet has a touch of malanders, and various skin type issues. All are under control and being treated with vet help.
He had a small cut on the back of his knee, directly on the crease, so it near impossible to heal. I cleaned and bandaged daily for 4 days. Day 5 coblet is seriously lame, not weight bearing, knee and upper leg are very hot, and HUGE with swelling.
I proceed to cold hose and walk as much as poss while waiting for the vet.
Gives a huge jab of bute, anti biotics and advises that there is a small abscess in the wound at his knee. Squeezes some puss out of it and advised that the next 48 hours are critical, as if it gets in to the joint, well, not worth thinking about.
We are day 7 now, and after jabbing him with antibiotics and 2 bute a day, we have a less swollen leg, much more sound and a generally happier coblet. However, we now have a seperate wound site above the original which is seeping.
Just wondering if there is anything else I can do to reduce swelling and get rid of nasties? He has one day of antibiotics left, and is turned out a few hours at a time in a small clean paddock.
Any experience/advice welcome!
