Keep him and enjoy him
He doesn't care what you do so long as he is fed, watered, loved and kept in the manner he enjoys - which from your post would seem to be exactly what he has. You are just a lucky person who has had a good break, you owe no one anything. You do not know what is round the corner for you or him so make the most of every minute but stop worrying about progressing up the ranks and be glad you have a beautiful animal to love and enjoy. So pleased to hear of a horse doing well in a loving home - how nice for him and you.
