Hi

My horse currently still lives at my mums as i have no land at mine, she has just sold her horse and is looking for a new one, meaning my horse is on his own.

My mum is on holiday for 2 weeks and i drive to see to him morning and night. I feel bad leaving him all alone.

A friend has offered that i keep him at hers while my mum is away to save me driving back and forth and so he can have other horses around. Do you think its worth upsetting his routine, would he be worse on his own when i move him back when my mum gets home?

How many of you keep your horses home alone?

thanks :)

Hi

I hate seeing horses on their own in fields long term but if there is a definite solution then 2 weeks or so shouldn't harm depending on temprement of horse though.

I think if he isn't calling and pacing then I would leave him there. It could take your mum a while to find another and I think that if you take him to a friend's just for whilst your mum is away he might get confused, and start to miss company again.

When I was younger, all my horses were lone horses and none of them bothered. These ranged from ex riding school to ex racers. Ideally you want them to have company but it is good to get them independent.

can't you stay in your mum's house while she is away?

it is a 'thing' of mine that i don't like horses left alone at night on unattended yards (and yes, it has made finding a decent livery yard that much harder :))
