Hiya i have not been on here for ages but really need advice on what to do....
I bought a brand new lorry over the christmas period aboslutly loved it, was the best pressent to myself ever bought!!
However 2 weeks ago a Van drove head on into the lorry at 60pmh = lorry written off (pony was fine, two hours later i was cut out!!! am still on box rest :( ) I had just had a horse vetted which i wanted to buy in scotland and now am in a slight predicament...
Although Insurance will pay out for lorry & my personal injury i have not been able to work so am now after expensive physio ect a slight bit poorer :( especially having to pay for some one to look after all the other four legged children! i really feel like im messing the owner of the horse around as now i cant ride her when she comes for a while and getting the funds is a bit more complecated :(
my options so far are..
Buy a cheaper horse box and the horse
Get a like for like horsebox and hope the horse is still there when i get paid out
Buy the horse and prey the insurance company gives me loads of money :)
then i need help on finding a lorry....
Layland Daf or Iveco no older then R reg, must take 3 horses and have full living
budgets are...either 15k or 35k depending on what i do about the above!
Just re read the post its quite random but i hope u get the general gist!!! Feeling a bit better now ive shared my stress :) Thanks

I think you need to get advice from a specialist solicitor that can advise you on claiming for loss of earnings and any treatment you have had or will need in the future.

Keep receipts for everything, & use them to claim against other driver.

Leave the horse and get yourself better, if it's fate, it'll be there when you are better. Or something else will be round the corner.

You dont always have to accept the first offer for the value of the box, you can always contest it & maximise what you have for the next purchase.

Poor you! That is a some seriously bad luck!!!

It all depends on how you feel about the horse. I would be devastated if I had to pull out of a sale after a good vetting because it takes me ages to find the 'right' horse. Personally I would buy the horse and muddle through until the insurance issue gets sorted.

If you are going to go down the insurance route make sure you keep all documentation - if you speak to anyone on the phone ask them to confirm it in writing/by email, if you post anything make sure you keep a copy and proof of delivery. A pain I know but experience has taught me the hard way.

If you are going down the compensation route do not expect a large sum of money, even if some firms says they can get you X amount what ever you do don't rely on it - from recent experience the courts are not looking favourable on 'so called ambulance chaser firms'. Definitely not saying you are of course, but it seems that some people who are just in it to get money out of people and insurance companies for 'false' claims have, in effect, spoiled it for genuine cases like yours.

My daughter had gone down the compensation route following a bad accident, not her fault the other side accepted full liability - not money grabbing just wanting to cover the extra costs and medical treatment needed - after two and a half years she has given up and ' in my opinion' settled, still no money yet though. Her medical issues are still not solved but she has had enough quibbling and questioning about her injuries. She has been asked to attend medical appointments many miles from where we live (apparently the NHS is not 'unbiased!!!'- these visits cost money and time off work for me - we have to pay up front and claim it back as expenses. According to our solicitor (unofficially of course) it is common practice to drag these things out as long as possible in the hope that people give up and accept what is offered.

Sorry if I come across as a doom merchant but recent experience has somewhat coloured my view of these things. I wish you all the best, a good recovery and good luck.
