Advice please - investing in SJ's

Newbie to the site so first off a "hello" to you all! Advice and thoughts wanted on a little dilemma I'm having at the moment please.

Im in the financial position at the moment, where I would like to "invest" ,possibly in a showjumper, but cant decide which way to go with it as have a few options open. Im keen to continue riding myself, and so do I..

1) Purchase a decent 3 yr old showjumper, to be sent away and produced/competed by a pro.

2) Purchase a decent young pony for a good junior to compete and produce.

3) Purchase two young ponies to be brought on by myself, and then send away, as above.

4) Purchase a decent yearling/2 yr old to keep for a few years, and a cheapish youngster for me to produce and possibly sell on soon.

I know those are a very variable set of options, but im a libra, hence being so indecisive. A monetary gain would be nice, but is not vital, i.e this is not a buisness venture or huge money making scheme.

Depends on what you are wanting to gain/objectives out of doing this, your future plans etc

Hello and welcome, my thoughts are as follows,

option 1 is a no no. Avoid at all costs unless you already know someone you trust and get on well with. Without wishing to sound awful if you fell into the wrong hands you could be ripped off IMO , all SJ's want is someone with money and they'll be your best buddy for as long as that money lasts. You might have the funds to buy the horse but ime you will need far greater amounts to keep it on the circuit.

I personally would buy a nice youngster and give it a really good upbringing so that you know its history and then it should have a great start to its ridden career.

do what I do and thats buy the youngsters, bring them on to BN and then send them off to some friends of mine to produce further and eventually sell. Works a treat, I ride some nice horses, and then get the satisfaction of seeing them in the ring at a high level and we both geta a lovely big reward at the end of it!

Welcome Corona.
I have a good little jockey who brought her youngster from a hacking home and is now jumping Newcomers and is looking for another ride for the bigger tracks if you decide to go down that route. Aged 14 so she can ride 138s or 148s.

Why do you want to own a SJer? If you want to go and watch it at show I would buy one that is jumping now.
