Advice please - Kicked off for no valid reason

Hi Guys,
I am new to the sight and need some advice..... For the past few months I have had a very poorly mare she has had several problems from a blocked overy to reacurring ulsers on her eyes. The yard manager who I also called a friend got quite controlling regarding my mare she would give her the drugs and advise on the best treatment for her. As I work full time I was very greatful for the help but I certainly returned the favours like fencing at 9pm at night but I thought we were friends. Eventually my marte got so ill the vet adviced I put her down (after months of treatment and nearly 3000 in vet bills ) she was diagnosed with cushions, her eye was not healing or responding to treatment and also her kidneys were damaged. So me being me would no longer see her in pain so after talking to the vet agreed that having her put down was the best for her as she had no quality of life. As there was no one on the yard that morning the vet came out straight away, but the yard manager insisted I sign my mare over to her so she could have her the vet strongly disagreed with this and was totaly for putting her down, when I refussed she launched out in a fit of rage and kicked me off the yard. After my mare had been put down the other manager came and abused me shouting I was evil and heartless and I should have handed her over. I left the yard after my mares body was collected. Later that afternoon the manager txt me saying my contract was cancelled immediatly as I had mistrreated my horse???????? I am heartbroken she then threw all my stuff into my stable(Muck included) and told me to get off asap. I asked her for my rent back which I paid for the monyth ahead in advance and she told me no. My husband wants to take her to court and we have the full backing of the vet. I am heartbroken as I have been at the yard longer than her and fgeel I have been treated unfairly I need help and advice please xxxxxxxxxxxx
 
How ever bad you feel about this women and the yard I would get my stuff, walk away and not look back. She is not worth the breath or worry. You did what was best for your horse and thats the end of it.
Send her a letter asking for your rent back, depending on her answer take her to the small claims court if you feel the need. I would also ask for a letter from the vet that attended giving the condition of your mare and the likely outcome even if it costs you a fee. In this age of facebook and the like if anyone starts slanders or libels you have written proof which you can show.
I am really sorry its ended this way for you. I had our old horses PTS in October, some people would have kept him another winter and had I been at livery I would have got some stick I am sure. You can not tell some people there are worse things than death.

Do you want to stay at a yard with such thoughtless people?

It sounds to me as though you had given your mare the very best chance of recovery, but sometimes they just don't :-(
You did your best & at the end made an informed & responsible decision with your vet, i don't think that any horse or pony can ask from more from an owner.

If i were you i would collect my things & move on, there are many, many yards where you will find caring supportive people to enjoy a future horse alongside :-)

sounds like a truly hideous woman! poor you. i would collect your stuff up and get out of there. send her a letter asking for her to return your livery owed and if she refuses its entirely up to you whether you decide to take it further. you should rest easy in the knowledge you did the RIGHT thing by YOUR horse, there's no doubt about this as it was a decision made with and supported by your vet! this woman is clearly crackers and doesn't have a clue what she's on about! thoughts with you and best of luck with whatever course of action you decide on and also with future horse-ing! :)
 
Collect your stuff walk away grieve in peace.
Never reason with a madman and don't give this woman who is clearly unsuitable to run a yard another thought.
You could take them to small claims court but IMO just let it go and have nothing more to do with them.
 
What an awful awful story :( I would send your husband round to do a wee through her letterbox. Sorry for your loss and for you having to put up with such wicked behaviour. You did the right thing by your horse, take comfort from that.
 
That is shocking. Like other posters have said, I would pick up my stuff, leave and take her to small claims court if she refused to give me the money back. Sorry to hear about your mare, hope you get everything sorted
 
You did the best thing for your mare, collect your stuff then if you feel up to it try and get your money back.
Yard owner sounds like total crack pot
 
I would let your husband deal with the small claims court as far as he can it involves filling out a form in the first instance I am told. It is your Money and you ought nit allow the yard to keel it as she may do it to someone else.
Really I have never heard of such a thing, a YO completely ignoring the vets advice to that extent. Truly ridiculous.
Don't be upset about this, grieve for your loss and by your money back too. YO won't be expecting you to have fight in you.
Wish you could name and shame.
 
Thanx guys I really wish I could tell you the name but I will say it is in the knowel area in Solihull if anyone is looking in that area I would really be careful because I would hate anyone else to go through the pain and hurt I have xxx my husband collected my belongings which were thrown amongst muck and straw 😢 he advised her she had 7 days to re pay me if bit he would be talking to his solicitor which I know he has today x I just do not want anyone to suffer the same as me x she is claiming sick pay from her job and running that yard on the side and as a s. worker I see people suffer and she is commuting fraud just not fair xxxx
 
Sorry for your loss and without wishing to upset you further but you said in your post that the yard manger took over medicating your mare but as she never got any better do you know for sure if she was actually giving it to your horse?
 
Firstly, I am sorry for the loss of your horse, but you acted under expert advice in the best interests of the animal,good for you! The YO sounds like a raving lunatic ,but the horse world is a small place and people do see these things. What comes around goes around. with regard to the livery in advance however. Unfortunately it is paid in advance and the death of the horse ,however tragic , does not remove that liability. The YO is left with an empty stable ,until a new livery moves in. A respectable yard would refund the costs of unused feed and bedding, but they dont have to. I would forget about a small claims court battle, very painfull for you and regretably you will almost certainly loose. Again, sorry for your loss.
 
Firstly I am sorry for your loss, it sounded like you did the very best for your mare and at least you were brave enough to take the tough decsion and end her suffering. I agree with the others about taking time to grieve.

I am shocked that the YM didnt regard the vets opinion as paramount in making a decision on what was best for your horse.

I agree with Mike re the fact that payment in advance isnt necessarily refunded - it would be the decent thing to do, but none of this YM's behaviour sounds decent.

I am also concerned as I am near Knowle and hope I never consider moving to the yard you described!!
 
i am very sorry for the loss of your mare but i am glad you went ahead and put her down as god knows what the yard owner had lined up for her. What a terrible way for her to behave at such an awful time. Unfortunately i know how hard it is to have a horse pts x
