Hi all, I am off to Clip Clops tomorrow to look for a quiet h/w cob to mainly hack. It is for me and my daughter to share, I have had health problems and a bad accident a few months back which has left me with a broken pelvis. So my daughter will be the main rider for a while.
There are a few horses I like on the website: Big Bertha, Ozzy, Biscuit, Tonto and Big Bear (though he may be a bit big).
What's people's views (or as anybody been there and tried any of these?).

Don't know much about them although have heard of them. They seem to have a good selection of horses available.

Normal advice is to go in anywhere with eyes wide open and if in any doubt, take an experienced friend with you, and get them (the seller) to ride the horse first before you or experienced friend do. Perhaps don't mention which horses you are interested in until you are there and can see the horses handled etc from the off. Vetting and bloods etc if you do buy one.

Found the website quite difficult to understand; the font that it is written in gave me a headache!

Keep us posted and hope you find something suitable soon :)

I am definately no expert, but I would go for Tonto on the images alone, poppy is also very nice.

Good luck, take your time and make a good few visits before deciding - obviously vetting a must too.

I haven't been to clip clip traders but have only ever heard good things about them. I did speak to Emma when I was looking a few years ago, but she didn't have anything suitable for me at the time, and the. I found something. She was very helpful on the phone though, and I know a few HHO members have bought horses from her & praised her highly :)

Looking at the photos, the riders there seem to be very 'strong' ridres. As you have had an injury, I would talk to the seller about which horses can be ridden in a more gentle manner. I've had an injury and I cannot ride certain horses now because I'm just not physically able to (eg if the horse pulls).

Think big bear was there when I went at the end of last year, if it is the same one yes he's big!

What I would say is go with an open mind, I went to see a specific one but was also shown another that I'd seen their advert for but hadn't thought much of. I really didn't get on at all with the one that I'd gone to see but the other was a really tough call as to whether to buy or not - I didn't in the end but there was a lot of agonising over the decision!

ROSIE POSIE

15.2hh m/w mare, 7 years.
Very quiet to ride, jumps up to metre.
Hunted few occasions and done p/c.
Hacks down busiest roads.
Lovely mare to handle as so easy.
I cannot rate this mare enough.
Suit novice or experienced rider as so genuine

Not my type - but if I was looking for my sister, this is the one I'd look at.

Take into account your broken pelvis too. Talk to your physio as to you expected range of movement on healing and if thus will have an effect on how wide a cob you can ride.

I like them all! Best to go with an open mind, I'd say :D

I have only heard good things about them and I did call them when I was looking. H came over with them and was sold to his previous owner. They advertised him for her when she was selling, although I actually bought him direct from the owner. I found Emma very helpful and honest - she didn't have anything that she thought would suit me at the time, and said so (apart from H :D )

I like the look of most of their horses and have drooled over Big Bear for quite some time so I think he has been there a while. A friend bought from them and had a lovely little cob who was exactly what they said he was. Only thing I can't figure out, and forgive me if I'm being blonde but what exactly do they mean by "Full livery will be charged once horse is vetted, removed and collected" Might just be me but doesn't seem to make sense? assuming it means they charge full livery from the point the horse has passed the vetting until it's collected, anyone else know?

Let us know how you get on, very exciting stuff. :D

Ah, bless them all, they all look so lush. Want to scoop them all up. Good luck with your horse hunt and hope one of them finds a happy home with you.

Big bear too big for daughter to realistically share, biscuit too much for me at the moment (didn't try, ths was advice I was given). Tonto not as chunky as I ideally wanted, big Bertha gone. But Ozzy, fell in love straight away. He pops a small jump, didn't bat an eye at loads of motorbikes, went well for daughter ( even youngest had a sit!). I managed to sit on for a few strides of walk to check I liked the view! Hopefully get vetted this week and go from there. Full livery is charged once vetted as she has no space at all. Lovely pub lunch followed, what a lovely day!

Sounds like overall you had a great day there - with plenty of options and hopefully your new ponio on the way !

Fingers crossed the vetting goes smoothly - good luck
