Hi,
On Friday when I was riding my horse he wasn't himself. He was coughing every couple of circuits and quite unwilling, So I took him back to his stable. On Saturday I put him out in the morning and he had a good gallop round and didnt cough once and seemed back to his normal self. When I rode him saturday afternoon he had a few coughs, but nothing much. When I got to him this morning he had white discharge coming out one nostril, and It got worse after him going out for a bit.
Any ideas what it could be?
thanks

Hmm sounds like what my horse had last week, he had some sort of virus I think, odd sweating on and off, not himself, dull, tucked up, snot running, lost weight also. It ran for about a week and now hes getting back to himself.

I noticed it as he was off under saddle, but again seemed fine in the field until a few days later.

If youre around other horses id isolate if you can and barrier nurse, check temp twice a day, keep an eye on him if temp goes up and horse becomes more unwell get your vet out.

Could easily be a virus - has he been out and about recently?

If it's very definitely only one nostril it could also be his teeth causing a problem - does his breath smell? when did he last see the dentist?

I would get the vet!! Coughing and discharge is often an infection. I have just had the vet out for same thing. Trouble is if u leave it it can become chronic copd which you can't treat only manage.
