My horse has a small area on his white hoof that is a different colour to the rest...sort of bruise coloured. I am not sure whether to be concerned about it because he is perfectly sound with no problems etc...but concerned in case it is something brewing for later...
The only thing I can link it to is that he spooked a few days ago when I walked up the lane to his field gate and momentarily got his foot between the bars of his field gate (5 bar thing)...luckily he pulled it clean out and only part of his hoof went through, but I wondered if it is possible that it has somehow bruised the hoof? Do hooves bruise like our nails? Is it a problem?
Thanks

One of our mares had a couple of these on her 'white' feet - we asked the farrier and he reckoned they were just bruised - the same as what we'd get if we banged a nail. Never caused her any problems - they just faded and eventually disappeared.

Years ago my sister got a pony with white hooves and booked him in with my farrier. It was the catalyst to change farriers because his feet looked so badly bruised around each nail hole - it was awful.

I suspect my black hooved horses were just the same but I couldnt see it.

Sounds like a bruise (look sort of browny-pink colour). If it's not lame already it probably won't be unless you're unlucky and an abscess develops (hopping lame, strong digital pulse)
Good luck
