looking to buy a horsebox to carry 2 16hh middleweights and am unsure what to get/ look at. Any advice would be good on what to look for, avoid etc. Only needs day living, cut through and luton. Not sure if forward facing or herringbone is best? Help please

What would you want with a luton if you only want day living ??? sounds like a fairly basic converted 7.5 ton box van would be ideal say a leyland daf stalled with hering bone partitions ... depends alot on budget but say £5000 upward should get something tidy and serviceble ...

I would always ask, and check the EMPTY weight of the intended purchase. Two large horses can add a huge payload to your lorry, and push it over any limits you may have, then you are illegal. remember that if you are overweight, your insurance company might just wave ta ta to your claim.

Different boxes have different "dry weights" and you dont want to buy your treasured box and find you can only get one horse in it before you are overweight.

Our big hunter ir 18.3HH, put him in an empty two horse lorry and you get the picture.

We looked at lots of boxes, supposed to be suitabe for our needs to find that the empty box itself was nearly 7.5 tonnes. In the end we had one built for our needs.

Draw up a MUST list, ie. sizes, weight etc, if they dont tick all the boxes move on.

Hope ths helps.
