I have an 8 month old chihuahua and a 3.5 year old also. The pup has started to pee on things that smell like me, mostly my clothing. I have just now seen him scent my other dogs stuffed toy and yesterday he peed on my dog while he was having a poop. The vet wont cut off his man bits until he is 2 due to his size but he cant pee on things esp not my dog or things that belong to him!! Please help i have no idea why he is doing this or how to stop it!????

you should try rubbing his nose in it, but everytime, so he associates it with not a nice experience after, or, this might sound really mean but it definatly works, get a small water pistol and spray him everytime as well! good luck!

my pup did this. i have two other dogs and when we got our third he did this. in the end i took away all the old bedding that smelt of my other dogs and put down other blankets that i had for them. this seemed to stop him peeing on the dogs beds. as already said rub his nose in it and tell him off. i had to be very firm with my pup. he will get over it. he is just trying to get his smell in the house. my pup stopped doing it after a short time. he has still got his bits so i dont think that makes a difference. not sure.:p

Terrible and old fashioned advice!

To the OP, have you heard of chemical castration, it might be worth
looking into. Have you a crate you can keep him in?

Completely baffled by advice so far, anyone rubbing their dog's noses in urine deserves to have their nose rubbed in it too.

OP, see another vet for a second opinion on castration, eight months is quite usual for a little dog.

Can't believe people still think rubbing nose in it works! Unfortunately in my experience little dogs will cock their legs on things as they mature (one of our chis best effort was to pee on a visiting policemans boot!). Castration would help, but if your vet isn't happy to do it yet can only suggest you are very vigilant around him and have a crate for times when you arent able to watch him.

Chihuahua's are quite a "dominant" breed. He is simply marking to make others aware, he owns the lot.....you included! Neutering may help.

Just a thought but if it is a dominance thing then making sure he knows he is at the bottom of the pecking order may stop the problem i.e. he goes through doors etc after you, gets fed last, no jumping on lap / sofa / bed etc

I agree dreadful advice re rubbing nose in urine:confused: this may be a sure fire way for him to associate you with the scrubbing, so he will possibly pish and scarper quick or literally scarper from you when he sees you coming towards him, and urine scuald on the nose can make a dog pretty sore.
The water pistol is not such a dreadful idea, it may deter and it wont be an association with you.

HOWEVER I would be going with castration, small breeds mature very fast compared to bigger breeds, so he def could be scenting, I have never heard of a vet that would not castrate a chi unitl 2 years, I find that very odd, I would be going to another vet im affraid.
Is your chi bitch spayed?

Be firm with him remove the odour as quickly as possible with something that will remove the smell AND the stain or else he will do it again.

I can't reiterate enough - NEVER EVER EVER RUB A PUPPYS NOSE IN ITS OWN MESS. You wouldn't do it to a child, or a foal, or a kitten, don't do it to a puppy.
It doesn't work but results in a dog which associates doing its business (wherever it does it) in being punished, causing more problems and an irrational fear. The chances are once he's done it he will forget what he is being punished for anyway!!!! Never ever do it, very negative results.

Chihuahuas as said above are quite dominant and they will mark their "territory". Firm, repetitive commands will help the dog far more than rubbing his nose in it.
Never heard of a vet refusing to do castrations until the age of two - would seek a second opinion. Also agree with suggestions above. Don't speak to him when you arrive home until he is calm and then on YOUR terms. Feed him last, don't allow him on the furniture etc.
good luck!!

Sorry, I have to agree that rubbing a dog's nose in wee does nothing other than make his nose smell of wee.

Try another vet regarding castration, the smaller the breed, the faster they mature, 2 years sounds very odd for a small breed.

Is he crate trained? It might be worth reverting to his crate or introducing him to one. Remove everything he has already peed on and treat him like a young pup, i.e. take him out at every opportunity, after food, after play, when he wakes up, etc. When unsupervised he should be in his crate. That way you can avoid future accidents.

It's funny, and I agree it's old advice, but I used to rub my cats nose in it and I have to say it worked every time. I don't do it anymore - and to be honest I am too slow - and I only ever used to rub their nose in it if I actually caught them at it.

I have a terrible problem with one of my cats weeing on the kitchen surface - and have to admit that if I ever actually could get close enough to him when he was doing it I might try it again. However, I'm to old and slow - so all I can do is if I ever catch him at it I shout very loudly at him and wave my arms about and he must think I am mad.

Sorry for the very late reply but just wanted to say thankyou for the advice. I would never rub his nose in anything so dont worry i know dogs dont respond to punnishment. We try really hard to stay the boss ie us going out first etc and they walk beside us on the lead and both are pretty well trained but we do feed them before us as they get fed about 5 and i dont get home from yard till at least 7 so we eat then. I checked with another vet and they said hes so small they would not put him under anaesthetic until hes older as it can be dangerous for someone so small, hes only 1.5kg. My other dog has been done and apart from a wee patch i found the other day he has been very very good. I showned him the aptch and sternly said oh dear whats this? he seems to see hes not to do it so fingers crossed he is over his little phase. He screams the house down when crated and we would also like a couple of litters from him before he is done! Thankyou for all the advice.
