I viewed a potential project horse yesterday, the owner had warned me before I went that the horse was in no way fault free. Which for a project horse you kind of expect anyway so off I toddled. The owner I felt was completely (and quite blatantly!) honest with me about his issues, one of which was bucking.
He bucked everytime she got on him, she's now learnt to sit his bucks and once he's got going he's fine. He had been out of work since November due to a foot absess and she's just started bringing him back in to work. So do you think the bucking is simply him being hotted up from being turned out all winter? She said that when he was point to pointing last year, when he was ridden regularly he never bucked. I asked when the saddle was last checked and if I remember rightly it was before the foot absess last year, so at least September (he went lame in Oct).
I'm keen on him, and if the bucking is something we can work out of him i'd have him! I've been bucked/reared/bolted on all sorts in the past, it's not an issue for me, but if it's something that can't be rectified I don't want to waste my time on him.

Hi

We have a horse that bucks and to be honest its a nightmare, hes just so unpredictable, these just arn't playful bucks they are bucks that mean I want to get you off (which he has to several of us). We have had him for 7 months now and he hasn't improved one bit, hes had all the necessary checks - hes just learnt that he can unseat the rider now. Hes going away for training tomorrow to try and get him out of it - their rider can sit to anything, but to be honest we have lost confidence in him so I have a feelng he won't be coming back. Its all personal preference but I would never knowingly buy a horse that bucks again.

Good luck and think very carefully!

Thank you, I'd normally have no hesitation in saying no but she said he's only done it since he came back into work after being turned out all winter, and once he's going he's fine...

I may be being cynical but that's a VERY long time to be off work with an abscess - are you sure that's the real reason he's not been in work....?! agree re: getting vet to check him, and maybe worth sorting out a trial or something to see if he improves if possible?
