I have a really pretty four acre field that in reality I should divide up to get better use from but i'm just not sure.

It is a really lovely vista with a river bank down one side and a natural pond down the other and I have two native ponies on there, although I'd like to get a couple more grass liveries in the summer. It is landlocked so no means of escape.

The rest of my land is divided into post n rail paddocks which is fine but I'm unsure what to do with this field.

I'm thinking I could fence the river bank area off for summer grazing leaving the rest of the field to grow / recover. Then divide the field into paddocks as part of it gets wetter in winter than others so the wetter parts could be for summer grazing and the dry parts winter grazing.

Head says yes, heart says no.

What would you do ?

I would divide it up as you said and fence the river bank off. You will be able to get more use out of it, especially if you are looking at getting a few liveries. You could divide it into four separate acres maybe? Also, as you said fence off the wet areas and only use them in the summer.

Also, as you have Natives I imagine they will need restricted grazing once the spring grass comes through, so it would probably be better for them too. :)
