Advice please - really need to decide which direction to take...

what a predicament!

I think you would be mad to sell Blaze- i know money is money but he is really super and as you say you really want to see where he will take you.

On the other front im not so sure?! I would say stick with 3.5tonne for now...either repair the one you have or sell it and get something a bit newer and more reliable.....depends on cost though obviously!

Or sell the other mare.

If your lorry is a new conversion I would borrow the money, get it repaired and stick with it for a while. The running costs are so much lower than on a 7.5t and I know where you are coming from regarding running a 4x4 on a daily basis. I drive a minimum of 500 miles a week and did the costing for car and 3.5t v 4x4 and I save approx £50 a month and get better mpg on the lorry than I did towing with my Discovery!
Borrow the money from your Dad for the repairs and get stuck into the 4yr old, get it out and about and sold asap, you can then pay back your dad and get another youngster. Don't sell Blaze, as you say, you need to be seen out and about competing to get other horses in for schooling.

Thankyou so much everyone for taking the time to reply, loads of really useful suggestions

The reason I would sell Blaze over Dawn is that I would make some money on him, where as dawn isnt realy worth anymore than I paid for her yet.

I think the plan is to somehow get the lorry fixed (probably loan from dad) then wait for a month or 2 so I can save enough to take my HGV test. Once that is done and the season is over I can then sell my little lorry and replace it with something larger and hopefully more reliable as really dont like the thought of trying to get mine through its mot next year....

Blaze therefore can stay, but if nessecary I will sell his dressage saddle to fund the repairs. Dawn will stay till next spring as planned but might have to be worth a bit more than we thought origionally

Still waiting to find out how much the lorry will cost to repair, fingers crossed it is less than they have estimated.

Thanks again, really appreciate all the advice. I dont want to sell Blaze yet as think he has the chance to be outstanding, and being fairly easy to produce will hopefully get me up the levels quicker than Jerry ever would have. Which in turn will hopefully bring in more horses to school.

I was going to ask whether you had tried sponsorship - even if it's just in return for products it saves you some money and will also get your name out there too.
