I've been lurking around for a while, but not posted before.

I have a horse on part loan, and think it is about time I got rider insurance, I've never bothered before, but a recent incident on the road out hacking has made me realise I really should ensure I am covered (although he is by his owner)

So, looking into it, E&L have quoted £29 a year, Petplan £72. This seems a huge difference, I have heard that petplan are good, but it is such a difference in price (given that I would be unlikely to make a claim unless he takes to sitting on a car again and we actually do some damage!)

Anyone any advice, or other companies I can try?

bhs (british horse socierty ) thats £55 a year and covers you for any horse you ride or own

I did try NFU but was told that as I didn't have existing cover they wouldn't insure me???

Will look into BHS,

thanks

My vet said Petplan are really slow to pay out on claims, I insure with NFU that are really quick to pay out but I'm not sure how much it would be.

i must disagree im with petplan when i have claimed they have been very good, paid out very quickly, but i have heard nfu are good aswell.

I part loan and have rider only insurance with NFU. I have no other policies with them.

I am also a gold memeber with BHS which gives me public liability insurance so I got this discounted off my rider only insurance with NFU.

BHS policy has personal accident but it does only cover for worse case scenario i.e. that you die or are severly disabled permantly, thats why I went with NFU for that side of the insurance.
