I have a 16:2 dark grey, 5yr old CBx mare and would like to show.
Thinking about ridden hunter middleweight novice.
I currently have black tack and ride in a snaffle. Would this be alright for a first season.
As to me - black boots, beige jods, cream shirt, brown tweed with green collar, brown gloves.
Can I use a green or brown velvet or must it be navy?

Am I right in thinking I will need to gallop.?
Do I need an individual show?

Thanks for any help

You will usually find that novice classes are mixed weight. At County Level you will group gallop (extend down long side) no individual show as there will be a ride judge. It's not usual to see a hunter in either a snaffle or black tack. If you are just doing local this year you should be OK with your tack while testing the waters.
At local level you are unlikely to have a ride judge or a group gallop. You will do an individual show and show a gallop in that.
Edited to add navy hat is best.

Everything as others have said above black tack is acceptable at all levels so don't worry. Brown is correct but depends how you horse looks in this. And snaffle is def okay for local level novice classes.
