Saffron is a 16yr old welsh D. She is on cracking form, jumping well, very full of it! However, I have noticed that she is very slightly short on a tight circle on concrete( I watch her when she comes out of her box in the morning while I muck out before riding). She is, otherwise, sound. Does this warrant further investigation? Her feet are good, no heat anywhere, no swelling.... Just worried that I may be damaging her slowly...although, as I say, she is fine in all other respects. I am taught by a pro event rider every week and he always remarks how well she looks and moves...but then he doesn't see her do her funny hop trot on the concrete in the morning!

AmyMay...no, don't think it's a corn...but will ask farrier to check

May be worth investigating, as she is a heavier type. The action sounds pretty spot on for corn related 'soreness'.

I would get it looked at, my 13 year old is the same but he was diagnosed with mild arthritis of the Coffin joint last May, most days you really would not know there is any thing wrong with him, He most definitely thinks there is nothing wrong with him! but he's not right on a circle on hard ground, It would be better to know now rather than later? Sorry I don't mean to sound all doom & gloom but I would have it checked out.

If you are concerned I would get it checked...you may be catching something early by being so observant and getting it looked at sooner rather than it becoming something more.

When you are saying this is happening is the same as what a a vet does when checking a horses movement - hard surface, tight circle is what they did with my mare when arthritis was suspected...no heat, no obvious lameness....and she couldnt do some of these tests on the lunge. It doesnt mean it is that...

I don't mean to sound gloomy..its just that acting quicker is the best option and it could be something simple.

my lad showed the same symptoms, he had WLD but I didn't realise how far up the wall it had gone

the farrier had to cut away the wall up to about half an inch off the coronet band to get it all

I think the separation of the wall to this extent caused him discomfort, its growing out now, with the shoes removed, so will have to wait and see if this is the cause.

it's an unlikely set of events, just thought i'd post it as it's not something that ever crossed my mind, and i was conjuring up all sorts of scenarios like arthritus etc.

I would get it checked straight away. Any form of un evenness or movement that is not usual for your horse is usually an indication that something is going on. my boy was lame last year but only on a very small circle on concrete. To ride he looked sound. I wasn't happy and took him straight to newmarket where they diagnosed a tendon tear that would have significantly worsened had I not taken him to the vets.
Your instincts are generally right. It may be something really small but to avoid long term heart ache definately get it looked at. Good luck!

At a guess, I would also say start of arthritis, possibly in the hock, but this doesn't mean all gloom and doom, she may just need some supplements, she is 16 so its not unusual.
